SWP have been working on a number of the local hospitals to provide engineering support for upgrades, modifications and extensions at Conquest Hastings, Bexhill Hospital, Eastbourne DGH and Brighton. This has mainly been for modernisation of scanner rooms, extensions to wards and treatment rooms, surveys of the existing structures for new equipment and plant rooms and plant roof decks for new upgraded air handing units, and M&E plant generally.
The projects are generally all live with the new roof plant deck about to commence. Some interesting and varied old hospital building structures, some with some reasonable record drawings which makes a nice change.
Friston Paediatric Ward, Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: Existing plant deck review, duct route assessment and penetration and internal room changes. Historical information was utilised to check the loading allowed in the design; these were then compared to proposed loading.
Ophthalmology, Bexhill Hospital
Description: New steel grillage designed for roof plant deck and internal room changes. The increased load from the new plant deck was checked against the wall and foundation capacity. Concrete stubs were used to raise the plant deck and spread the load on load bearing masonry.
Conquest Hospital, Hastings – CT3
Description: Survey of internal walls to allow for the design of suitable lintel for the internal door widening.

Description: A&E X-Ray 1 conversion to office, A&E X-ray 6 refurbishment, A&E office and consultant room conversation to X-ray room, CT4 scanner room, AHU load review and support on existing plant deck, and duct and pipe runs review using existing risers.
Cuckmere Ward Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: Support contractor with ongoing refurbishment of Cuckmere ward, refurbishment support including shower tray installation, and infill of service duct following WC relocation.
North Riser and CCTV Room, Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: North Riser and CCTV Room duct penetration route review from the existing plant room via service riser shaft to new ward.
Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: Remodelling and Opening Up survey, new door and corridor to connect SDEC and new SSC. This included design of lintel for opened up walls.
Sussex Surgical Centre, Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: Opened Up survey to review the loading on the wall to allow for the main entrance door to be moved. This included temp work design while new lintel is installed, and the main door is moved to suit.
Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Eastbourne District General Hospital
Description: CCU ward refurbishment, 3 new steel plant deck to support new AHU. Steel deck to be supported via extended RC concrete stubs connected to existing RC columns. Project ongoing.
